So, I found Riley Blake's Hooty Hoot material when drooling over fabric online and when I saw the panel on my favorite Fabric shopping website, I couldn't resist.
What a perfect opportunity to break out the even-feed pressure foot (which I had since learned about after the red, black and white quilt) and try some machine quilting.
This panel was a bit small, so I added some brown minky. It turned out a little short on the top and bottom, but overall pretty okay since I was trying new things. My machine quilting didn't turn out too bad either!
Since I was trying new things and all, why not try hand-quilting? So I did - make slightly larger stitches to create what I think, is a cute look.
I really like how the machine quilting on the line made the panel 3-D and the hand quilting made the picture pop out. Hooray for Hooty Hoot! Even more excited was my sister who got to have the blanket for her birthday. To my other sister, when I find more cute owl material, I will make you an owl quilt too.
